Defensive Sparring Drills

Last night the brown belts worked on defensive sparring drills. Previously, we have only focused on offensive sparring drills so it was a nice change. While I found it extremely difficult at times, especially with the footwork, I really enjoyed how it forced me to work my angles so that I am in the right position and ready to counter attack or defend again. It also became apparent how important a good, deep fighting stance is in order to quickly move from one stance to another. I know that I have a long way to go to be good at sparring, but last night I felt a few of the of pieces come together and that’s what I love about karate and that’s what keeps me coming back for more.
